Project funding for interactive learning in marteloscopes
The project „Wald.Wissen.Wandel – Interaktives Lernen im Marteloskop“ has received 20,000 euros in funding from the TU Dresden Fund for Digital Learning and Teaching. Its aim is to make forestry education in forest stand management more practice-oriented and future-ready by integrating an interactive e-learning tool directly into field teaching.
The focus lies on developing tailored teaching materials and establishing additional marteloscope plots in Saxony. Marteloscopes are fully surveyed forest areas where every tree is recorded and management decisions can be simulated. The European Forest Institute’s “I+” app provides virtual access to these plots, enabling exercises, case studies and reflection formats within a flipped classroom approach. Students prepare theoretical content in advance, apply it in the forest, and critically reflect on their decisions. The project was initiated by Prof. Marieke van der Maaten-Theunissen together with Erik Nestler.
