Research and teaching at the Chair of Forest Growth and Dendrosciences centre on a key theme in forest science: the growth and development of trees and forests. We investigate how tree growth is shaped by physiological processes, environmental conditions and forest management. Our research also extends beyond present-day forests to the composition and dynamics of forests in the past.

Profile
Our research examines how trees and forest ecosystems respond to environmental change, including climate change, and how forest management can support their resilience and adaptive capacity. We also reconstruct past forest composition and development using subfossil wood and charcoal remains.
Our teaching is closely linked to our research and integrates current scientific questions, methods and findings.
