Model projects Smart Cities: Urban development and digitalization - sub-area environmental monitoring/water structures
Objective
Sustainable urban development in times of climate change requires reliable digital information bases that can be used jointly by all stakeholders in the citizenry, business, science and administration. The "Digital urban heavy rain twin and environmental monitoring" measure as part of the Smart Cities Dresden model project "Intelligent districts for the city" aims to create the essential digital technological basis for improved risk management with regard to heavy rainfall.
On behalf of the Environmental Agency of the City of Dresden, an open source tool for the automated detection of vegetation on land surfaces from 3D point clouds is to be developed in a joint collaboration from 01/2025 to 12/2026, which will enable the delineation and classification of small water bodies based on surface/vegetation properties. The tools are to be tested as a model in the urban area south of the Elbe.
