UAVs for the Environmental Sciences
Since the recognition of UAVs to measure the earth surface with different sensors and high precision their application and advancement has gained momentum rapidly. Thus, the use of UAVs has increased enormously in various scientific disciplines over the past years. On the one hand, this is due to the availability of more and more inexpensive and easy to use flight systems e.g. with fail-safe functionality, and on the other hand by growing possibilities of processing data from UAV flights. This trend can also be noticed in the domain of environmental sciences. For example, the annual number of geo-scientific journal publications dealing with the use of UAVs has fivefold in just five years (from 2012 till 2016). In different domains of environmental sciences a large number of scientific publications are already available. However, none of these publications can give a complete, structured, and consolidated insight into the whole subject of using UAVs in environmental sciences. The aim of this network is editing a benchmark educational and scientific book discussing the state-of-the-art on the use of UAVs in the field of environmental sciences. Thereby, theoretical and practical aspects will be illustrated in detail and explained comprehensibly for graduate and post-graduate students as well as academic researchers. The rational of the book is to serve as a handbook and guideline for the application of UAV-based remote sensing. Data acquisition, processing and interpretation will be explained in-depth, and will be correlated by a variety of practical examples and case studies.
The book can be purchased at the wbg publisher as Hardcover.
