Orientation Week WiSe 25/26

The events for the first semester introduction (short: ESE) will take place this year in the winter semester 25/26 from 06th Oct. 2025 to 11th Oct. 2025.
These are for all first-year students, whether Bachelor or Master. You are cordially invited to take part in the events.

We ask you to register for the notifications in advance via our Opal course so that we can better provide you with the latest information on the ESE events and, if necessary, reach you better in the event of last-minute changes during the ESE week itself. Thank you very much! To do this, you must first register in the general course and then you can subscribe to the messages in the "ESE - First semester introduction" tab.

Bridge courses

To brush up on your Abitur knowledge and prepare you for the start of various modules, TU Dresden offers preparatory courses in the weeks before the start of lectures. These are the so-called bridge courses in mathematics, physics and chemistry, as well as the online preparation courses in mathematics, physics and computer science. It is particularly worthwhile for our first-semester Bachelor students to take a look at these courses.

Hikes

On Monday, October 6th, we would like to show you Dresden and the surrounding area on a hike. There will be two hikes, one for first-year Bachelor students and one for first-year Master students. Please remember to wear sturdy shoes and weather-appropriate clothing and pack some food and water! As we will be using public transportation, please download the Deutschland-Semesterticket to your cell phone beforehand and bring an official photo ID (ID card, passport (note: student ID is not sufficient!))!

Get-to-know-evening

Hiking not your thing? Didn't have time during the day? No problem! You can still get to know us (the FSR Hydro) and your new fellow students on Monday, October 6th! Just come along to the get-to-know-evening. We will provide some games and drinks and look forward to seeing you!

Breakfast

On Tuesday, October 7th, you can get to know each other over breakfast and chat about your future studies over a cup of tea or coffee with your future mentors. No idea what a mentor is? Have a look at the mentoring program page. You are also welcome to come along if you are still undecided.

Registration course

We are offering two registration courses on Tuesday, October 07th  after the mentoring breakfast. One will be held in German and the other in English. Here we will give you help with the ZIH login, WLAN setup, VPN connection and other useful registration matters for the university. The course will last about 1 hour.

Pub crawl

On Tuesday, October 7th you can get to know Dresden's student clubs on our pub crawl. You will move from bar to bar in small groups.
Please remember your cell phones with a downloaded Deutschland-Semesterticket and an official photo ID (ID card, passport (note: student ID is not sufficient!)), as we will be using public transportation.

Campus tour + Mensa

On Wednesday, October 08th we will give the first-year students a short tour of the campus to show you all the important buildings, create an SLUB account and then go to the canteens (Mensa) together. Please bring your student ID with you.

Volleyball tournament + Viking chess

To summon up your team spirit, we are organizing a small outdoor volleyball tournament on Wednesday, October 08th. You will compete against each other in teams and can show off your volleyball skills. The best team will win a small prize.
If you don't like playing volleyball, you are still welcome to come along and try out Viking chess.
Remember that it's a bit cooler outside in October and pack weather-appropriate clothing!

Matriculation ceremony of the faculty

On Thursday, October 09th the faculty will introduce itself in a small festive circle. The matriculation ceremony will be held jointly for first-semester Bachelor's and Master's students. The event will last about 1.5 hours. Afterwards, the FSR will hand out the FSR first semester bags, which contain great goodies for you.

Matriculation ceremony of TU Dresden

Also on Thursday, October 09th the official matriculation ceremony of TU Dresden will take place too. You can find more information here.

Excursions

On Friday, October 10th, several excursions will take place. You can get an insight into a sewage treatment plant or waterworks, for example, and get in the mood for your studies.
As we will be using public transportation, please download the Deutschland-Semesterticket to your cell phone beforehand and bring an official photo ID (ID card, passport (note: student ID is not sufficient!))!
NOTE! The excursions will only be held in German. No translation provided.

THE EXCURSIONS ARE STILL BEING PLANNED.
REGISTRATION VIA OPAL WILL BE MANDATORY, AS THERE IS A LIMIT TO THE NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS.

Barbecue

If you need a little refreshment on Friday, October 10th, we offer you the opportunity to round off the evening with a barbecue and drinks.

City rally

On Saturday, October 11th, we want to introduce you to Dresden in a fun and exciting way. Even if you are completely new to Dresden, you will be able to participate without any problems and see different facets of the city on a discovery tour through "Elbflorenz". You can even win a small prize at the end. So it's worth it!
We aim for the city rally to last 4 to 5 hours.
As you can travel by public transport, please remember to pack your cell phones with a downloaded Deutschland-Semesterticket and an official photo ID (ID card, passport (note: student ID is not sufficient))!

Flunkyball tournament

Following the city rally on Saturday, October 11th, there will also be a Flunkyball tournament. If you don't know what this is, here is a highly scientific Wikipedia article.
For the tournament we will meet in the Großer Garten near the amphitheater. We'll provide two crates of beer, if you want to drink something else you'll have to bring your own drinks.
