Research Field 1
Impact of ecological and evolutionary processes on genetic and eco-physiological diversity in aquatic systems
Evolutionary and ecological processes are intrinsically linked to each other. Together they fundamentally affect the structure and dynamics of populations and ecosystems. To better understand these processes, we use and combine approaches from taxonomy, population ecology and genetics, (meta-) genomics and experimental evolution. Our studies deal with a broad range of freshwater organisms and communities from bacteria to fish.
Methods
- Metabarcoding
- Various PCR methods (i.a. qPCR, digital PCR)
- Analysis of environmental DNA
- Traditional markers for population genetics (e.g. microsatellites and mtDNA)
- Experiments in micro- and mesocosms
- Non-invasive DNA sampling (fish)
