Field trip report September 2018
The Institute of Waste and Recycling Management conducted a field trip to a total of 11 waste management related destinations in Germany from September 24, 2018 to September 28, 2018.
14 master students participated in the 5-day insight into the practice of the waste management industry. The trip started in Dresden and went via Leipzig, Eisenach to Frankfurt am Main. They visited waste-incineration plants, above-ground and underground landfills, processing plants for various types of waste, plastics processors, an algae-breeding plant as a heat consumer for a biogas plant, and the waste-management operations of Fraport AG in Frankfurt am Main and Infraserv Höchst. They also visited two sites where active remediation of contaminated sites is currently underway.
The trip was sponsored by the Society of Friends and Sponsors of the TU-Dresden and with budget funds from the Department of Hydrosciences, which kept the costs low for the participants. The biennial round trip is equally interesting for the students and the visited companies, as the former get to know future fields of work and the latter can get in touch with potential employees. All participants were extremely pleased with the conducted excursion.
The Institute would like to express its sincere thanks to the sponsors, without whom such an excursion would not have been.
