Pirna experimental field
The experimental field currently under construction after careful planning on the outdoor facilities of the TUD site in Pirna is, among other things, an essential part of the research project of the former research group INOWAS.
The main objective of the INOWAS research project is to develop a web-based decision support system (DSS) for the planning, design and management of artificial groundwater recharge applications.
Experiments performed on infiltration units in the laboratory (see "INOWAS pilot plant"), together with column tests and investigations on a test field, will contribute to predicting the effectiveness of artificial groundwater recharge under different soil properties and process conditions. The results obtained will be used to verify and validate the decision support system.
In 2015, two infiltration units were constructed and commissioned: one unit for simulating processes in the unsaturated soil zone (specifically for infiltration basins) and another unit for simulating processes in the saturated soil zone (infiltration wells).
The insertion of another seven groundwater levels and the installation of additional technical equipment of the experimental field is currently in progress.
