Innovative, web-based decision support system for water sustainability under climate change (INOWAS)
Climate change poses an imminent threat to water resources worldwide. Compensating for these deficits can be done through sustainable strategies. The INOWAS project aims to provide stakeholders with a science-based Decision Support System (DSS) for planning, building and managing applications in the water sector. The focus is on qualitative and quantitative assessment of managed groundwater reservoirs using scenario analysis, forecasting, and risk assessment with reference to influencing climate factors. The DSS, which consists of several components, will be developed on an interactive web-based platform that combines an extensive database with complex scenario analysis tools. Simulation of different environmental scenarios will be enabled by integrating GIS applications (problem definition using thematic maps) and CAD-based management tools of input and output data through process-based simulation tools (analytical and numerical models for groundwater flow and reactive solute transport).
