New DRESDEN-concept Research Group PRONTO

DDc Research Group PRONTO
Dr. Gregory Lecrivain conducts research at the HZDR's Institute of Fluid Dynamics. His DDc research group PRONTO is jointly funded by the HZDR and TU Dresden and thus benefits from the excellent infrastructures of both institutions. At the HZDR, it has access to the ultra-fast electron beam X-ray computed tomography system, a globally unique imaging technique with enormous potential for investigating microplastic transport. The TUD has high-performance computing and computer models for the realistic simulation of particle-laden water flows. The measurement technology developed by Dr. Lecrivain's group to date is primarily used for issues relating to energy and process engineering. In this project, it is being applied for the first time to a topic from environmental research, namely the spread of microplastics in flowing waters. The group benefits greatly from its collaboration with Professor Bernhard Vowinckel from the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, who is working on the particulate distribution and spread of various pollutants that occur both in aquatic ecosystems and in anthropogenic settlement areas.
