Award for cycling research: MoveOn project wins the German Mobility Award
With their project "MoveOn - Cycling Data for Germany", Sven Lißner and his team from the Friedrich List Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences have made it onto the shortlist (top 3) for this year's German Mobility Award in the "Digital Transformation and AI" category. The project was also awarded the Audience Award.
Cycling is climate-friendly and cost-effective and makes an important contribution to the mobility transition. In order to be able to plan cycling infrastructure more efficiently in the future and make it more demand-oriented and to make cycling safer overall, transport scientists at TU Dresden are investigating traffic data from cyclists in the MoveOn project. The project team collects, analyzes and evaluates GPS route data from cyclists and makes it available for municipal traffic planning. The scientists' commitment has now been recognized with the Audience Award of the German Mobility Award and a nomination for the shortlist (top 3) in the Digital Transformation and AI category. Dr. Sven Lißner, Head of the Cycling/BikeLab research group at the Chair of Transport Ecology, is delighted with the award: "The nomination for the award is an important signal for strengthening cycling in Germany and motivates us to continue researching digital concepts for bicycle-friendly cities and municipalities. Winning the audience award shows the great social relevance of our research topic and that we are moving many people with our research."
GPS cycling data for the mobility transition
As part of MoveOn, the transport scientists at TU Dresden are developing a digital platform for cycling data together with the TUD spin-off Flow.d GmbH and Klima-Bündnis e. V. (Climate Alliance). As part of the nationwide cycling campaign "STADTRADELN", GPS data is being collected using a smartphone application. This data is evaluated by the Chair of Transport Ecology and processed in the form of various application scenarios. For example, the route data obtained can be used to display waiting times or source-destination relationships of cyclists. The collected data can also be used in the form of long-term analyses and projections, such as the average daily bicycle traffic volume (DTV) for a year. The resulting information and data will then be made available to more than 3,000 municipalities as a visualization platform for the further development of cycling.
The MoveOn project is funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport Affairs (BMDV) as part of the national cycling plan. The project sponsor is the Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility (BALM).
The German Mobility Award
The German Mobility Award is one of the most important awards in the field of digital and mobility and is presented annually by the Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport (BMDV). The award ceremony took place on October 21 as part of the Federal Government's Digital Summit in Frankfurt am Main. The jury for the mobility award is made up of leading experts from the fields of digital and mobility, including "Friedrich List" faculty alumni Prof. Dr. Angela Francke, who has held an Endowed Chair for Cycling in Kassel since 2021.
We congratulate the team at the Chair of Transport Ecology on the award.
