Mobility and structural change: TU Dresden on site in Lusatia as a research partner of the Görlitzer Verkehrsbetriebe
As part of the realization of structural change, the application for the implementation of an innovative mobility concept by the Görlitzer Verkehrsbetriebe (GVB) has been confirmed in the regional monitoring committee.
In addition to the procurement of new trams, the project volume of € 67.7 million also includes numerous innovation components, such as the automation of tram and bus routes and the implementation of CO2-neutral vehicle fleets.
The Innovationscampus „Automatisierte Wasserstoffmobilität“ of the Technical University of Dresden and the Fraunhofer IWU, Kunststoffzentrum Oberlausitz on the Siemens site in Görlitz, which is already working in close partnership with the WALEMObase project for the combination of automation and hydrogen-based propulsion, is named for the implementation of the research and development scopes in the region.
With innovative methods, ideas and solutions, the partners make an important contribution to ensuring sustainable mobility in rural areas. With the emerging research landscape on the innovation campus, local companies will have direct access to complex high technologies such as automated driving and hydrogen-based drive technology. In this way, the necessary framework conditions are also created for the relocation of innovative companies to the region and thus the creation of new jobs.
With the new projects, the professorships for vehicle mechatronics as well as internal combustion engines and drive systems are consolidating their research, especially on vehicles for sustainable and automated public transport (Projekt ABSOLUT, Pilotlinie 64, Elektrobus-Linie 79, C3-Mobility) and expanding the Saxon IVS-Testfelder by one Real laboratory in Lusatia.
