Renewal of the vehicle fleet

The EBL is used almost daily for student exercises or external training courses. This leads to a high level of wear and tear on the existing model vehicles, some of which have been in continuous operation for more then 20 years. As a result, the vehicles are constantly being replaced.

In the winter semester 2024/25, 8 new vehicles were purchased, fitted with couplings and adapted to the laboratory control system. From summer semester 2025, new Talent 2 passenger vehicles will run in double traction on the Waldhof - Neustadt - Klotzsche line. This will enable a more realistic operation and also have a vehicle reserve for winging and joining at Waldhof station. As the current class 610 vehicles have been in operation since the early days of the laboratory and are therefore already showing signs of wear and tear in the gearbox.
