Track segment with several wheel detectors
Wheel Sensor ZP 30 (type Thales)
To be connected to an axle counter system via a trackside connection and electronic box (EAK 30), the detector unit ZP 30 is comprised of two transmitter - receiver unit pairs for directional vehicle detection. As a passing wheel influences the magnetic field arround the unit, a counting impulse is generated. The ZP30 is specified for a traversal speed limit of 350 km/h.
EAK 30 (type Thales)
The trackside connection and electronic unit EAK 30 is capable of being connected to a maximum of four wheel sensor units of type ZP30. The obtained information is then transmitted to the axle counter system for track vacancy determination.
Twin wheel sensor (type Pintsch Tiefenbach)
The twin wheel sensor unit being comprised of two identical sensor systems for directional passage detection. Wheels of passing rail vehicles are detected based on an inductive principle as the metal wheel absorbs a portion of the magnetic energy from the stray field around the twin sensor unit. This information can be processed for automatic train detection purposes.
Magnetic track unit (type WSSB)
The magnetic wheel sensor unit WSSB detects passing wheels by utilising the priciple of de-balancing a magnetic bridge. The unit is suitable of being mounted to a wide variety of rail types (profiles). The maximum allowed traversal speed for this unit is 200 km/h. Later on, an "Pulser Unit" was developed based on this senor unit.
Pulser Unit (type WSSB)
The Pulser Unit detects passing wheels by the priciple of a magnetic bridge being de-balanced. The unit can be attached to a wide variety of rail types (profiles). The maximum allowed traversal speed for this unit is 200 km/h.
Rail switch of type "Neptun" (Legacy)
The rail switch "Neptun" was a whel detector working on a pneumatic principle. A mercury switch is finally actuated by a wheel passage thus being used as a trigger for required actions. The rail switch "Neptun" does not fit to any rail profile and can be operated up to a speed limit of 120 km/h.
