Approval of the Air-Take-Off project
The project focuses on the research and development of a collision avoidance system between manned aircraft and unmanned aerial systems (UAS) as a targeted risk reduction measure in airspace. The long-term goal of the project is to ensure that UAS and manned aircraft can coexist safely in complex airspace and rapidly changing environments.
The cooperation between UAS and aircraft is not only crucial for safety, but also enables scenarios such as rescue missions in disaster areas. Here, for example, UAS can be dispatched from the AOC and deliver precise medication or draw detailed situation pictures. This approach is to be implemented and tested as a prototype in the project.
An outstanding research infrastructure for autonomous air mobility is currently being developed at the Kamenz airfield, which includes the "Research and Flight Test Center for Autonomous and Electric Flying" (AEF gGmbH) as well as a mobile, private 5G campus network. TU Dresden's Cessna 172 research aircraft is also stationed here. The UAS research supports TU Dresden's long-term research strategy for autonomous air mobility, which is also manifested in the new Smart Mobility Lab research campus near Hoyerswerda.
The project is being led by the Chair of Aviation Technology and Logistics (IFL) and is being scientifically implemented in collaboration with the Chair of Aircraft Technology (LFT) and the Vodafone Chair for Mobile Communication Systems (MNS). These chairs contribute extensive experience and expertise in the fields of risk modeling, aviation technology, structural design, wireless communication and communication systems.
