Other Research
Here, you can find further research on air transportation.
Air Space Management
The European airspace is among the busiest in the world, with annual traffic growth projected at up to 2.7%. To ensure safety and efficiency, 38 air navigation service providers (ANSPs) coordinated by EUROCONTROL manage airspace capacity; however, this fragmentation is often seen as a source of inefficiency. Under the “Single European Sky” initiative, Functional Airspace Blocks (FABs) are being introduced to address this. Increasing cost pressure—particularly from low-cost carriers—has intensified the focus on studies of productivity and efficiency in air traffic management. The chair’s research examines drivers and barriers to ATM performance and develops alternative operational concepts, most notably the “Flight-Centered ATM” approach, in which control structures dynamically adapt to actual traffic demand—representing a paradigm shift toward user-centered airspace organization.
Knowledge Transfer
There is one primary focus within the superior research project: "transfer of expert knowledge". This focuses on the continuous support of knowledge transfer between the economy, politics, and real-world applications, covering subjects from areas such as mobility, traffic, and urban development.
