INCREASING YOUNG WOMEN'S PARTICIPATION IN SCIENCE STUDIES AND IN THE AERONAUTIC INDUSTRY
End of July 2013, the EU approved the submitted project proposal "Increasing young women's participation in Science Studies and in the Aeronautic Industry (IN2SAI)" as part of the EU Lifelong Learning Programme. The IN2SAI project intends to increase the participation of female students in higher education studies in scientific fields (especially those relevant for aeronautics) and to contribute to their integration into the Aeronautic Industry (AI).
Within the next two years the following aims will be (October 2013-September 2015) implemented:
- To enhance collaboration among academia and industry, so that academia can better ad-dress the needs of industry and both can contribute to better gender balance by increasing the participation of female students/workers.
- To describe the existing situation regarding female participation in scientific studies and the AI by collecting existing information and questioning the main actors (e.g. professors, higher education and secondary female students, human resource managers working in organisations of the AI).
- To identify existing reasons and possible causes for the low female interest in scientific studies and participation in the AI.
- To increase the interest of female students/young women in scientific studies and AI careers by providing information on existing opportunities, presenting successful examples, and promoting events where they can share opinions and experiences with stakeholders involved in those sectors.
- To support academia promoting gender balance in their scientific courses, and motivating female students to pursue careers in AI, by developing educational programmes that can contribute to diminishing prejudices and raising/increasing their interest in careers in AI.
- To perform dissemination activities all over Europe in order to maximize the impact of the project activities and outcomes among the target groups, thereby improving the sustainability of the final outcomes.
Under the leadership of the University Politécnica de Madrid and the INOVA +, the Chair of Air Transport Technology and Logistics, being one of five other project partners, will be actively involved in the concept development and implementation. More information can be found on the IN2SAI project site.
