published after a long time - practical handbook to evaluate cycling measures
After a long time, the practical handbook for the evaluation of cycling measures was published. This was created as part of the RADeval research project at the Technische Universität Dresden and is now, together with the final report, accessible to interested municipalities and the public.
Evaluation of measures in cycling
With the increasing importance of cycling and the associated local cycling promotion activities, the question of the success of the measures also arises. Evaluations can make an important contribution to recognizing the strengths and weaknesses of cycling promotion and provide administration and politics with an important basis for future decisions. At the same time, they promote transparency and offer facts and arguments for the communication of cycling-related projects. Evaluations thus contribute effectively to the realization of bicycle-friendly cities and municipalities with sustainable transport structures.
This practical handbook is intended to provide municipal planners and the interested public with user-friendly and low-threshold assistance in the evaluation of cycling projects. In addition to instructions for creating an evaluation concept, survey methods in cycling are presented and the application is illustrated with examples. The practical handbook was funded by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure with funds for the implementation of the National Cycling Plan.
Final Report
The final report of the RADeval research project summarizes the course of the project and the project results achieved. It describes the process and the results of a survey of municipal cycling officers on the subject of evaluating cycling measures. Furthermore, the current state of research on bike evaluation was worked out and it includes numerous case studies. Finally, the cooperation with five pilot municipalities is described, which carried out their own evaluation projects in cycling. The report also contains the evaluation reports prepared for the municipalities.
