Successful COSEAL Workshop 2024 in Dresden
From May 21 to 23, 2024, around 100 of the leading international researchers in the field of algorithm selection and configuration were guests in Dresden to participate in the 11th edition of the annual workshop of the research network COSEAL (Configuration and Selection of Algorithms).
The COSEAL Workshop 2024 was organized by the Chair of Big Data Analytics in Transportation under the direction of Pascal Kerschke. It was also supported by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the AI Competence Center ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig. We would also like to thank the management and team of the Dorint Hotel for providing the beautiful conference rooms and for their active and pleasant support in organizing and running the event.
This year's workshop once again provided an excellent platform for the exchange of the latest research results and innovative ideas in the fields of automated machine learning (AutoML), benchmarking, configuration and selection of efficient optimization algorithms and search heuristics, landscape analysis, and much more.
Participants from all over the world presented their work in over 40 stimulating poster presentations, various entertaining beamer presentations and engaged in in-depth discussions. New approaches in the areas of AutoML, reinforcement learning and their application in various domains were particularly emphasized. The positive response and lively participation underlined the importance of this workshop for the international research community.
In addition to organizing the workshop, the Big Data Analytics team actively participated in the scientific program of the workshop with three poster contributions. Jonathan Heins and Lennart Schäpermeier presented “Dancing to the State of the Art? How Candidate Lists Influence LKH for Solving the Traveling Salesperson Problem", Konstantin Dietrich presented "Impact of Training Instance Selection on Automated Algorithm Selection Models for Numerical Black-box Optimization" and Markus Leyser gave new food for thought with his poster on "Interpretable Spatiotemporal Feature Selection for Solar Power Forecasts".
We would like to thank all participants for this great event and are already looking forward to the next edition, which is planned for next year in Porto.
