1st prize in the regional "Jugend forscht" competition goes to Tabea Degenhardt and she moves on to the state round

Tabea Degenhardt at the regional competetion "Jugend Forscht"
Tabea Degenhardt from year 12 at Martin-Andersen-Nexö-Gymnasium won first prize in the "Working World" category at the regional "Jugend forscht" competition on March 8, 2025. She was also honored with the special prize "Shaping the future with safety".
In the course of the successful defense of her scientific project work "Potential analysis to increase traffic fairness at traffic lights" in February 2025, Tabea Degenhardt was awarded a prize by the foundation "Sachsen. Land of Engineers", and now she has once again been recognized for her outstanding achievement. Her work, on the optimization of traffic light systems, supervised by our Research Associate Dipl.-Ing. Django Adam, convinced the jury both in terms of scientific depth and practical relevance for the mobility transition in urban areas.
She investigated the question of how to achieve higher traffic fairness for pedestrians and cyclists without negatively affecting motorized traffic. As part of her extensive simulations, she was able to prove that such optimization is already possible at certain intersections in Dresden.
Tabea Degenhardt will now take part in the Saxon state competition "Jugend forscht" with her project, which will take place on April 12, 2025 at the VDI-GARAGE in Leipzig. There she will have the chance to present her work to an even wider audience and compete with other young talents from all over Saxony.
Her participation in "Jugend forscht" not only underlines the commitment of pupils to technical and scientific issues, but also the significant contribution that young researchers can make to solving current challenges in the field of transport technology.
With her project, Tabea Degenhardt has once again proven that technical interest and commitment are not a question of age and that she has a promising future in engineering science. As the Chair of Traffic Process Automation, we show possible engineering topics in the transport sciences and are always happy to support motivated pupils in their scientific work on current problems.
