PROTEKT - Platform for risk minimization with open technologies to increase traffic safety through connectivity in the transport sector
Project manager: Dipl.-Ing. Sven Fröhlich
Project duration: 10/2025 - 12/2027
Brief description:
Pedestrians and cyclists are among the most vulnerable road users (VRU). How to improve their protection using current V2X (vehicle-to-everything) technologies is at the focus of the PROTEKT project. These technologies are currently being developed and rolled out for motorized traffic, while non-motorized traffic has so far only received secondary attention in these developments.
In cooperation with the "Friedrich List" Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences' ITVS and Traffic Psychology Chairs, concepts and technologies will be developed and implemented to enable VRUs to benefit from current V2X technologies and thus increase their safety.
The Chair of Traffic Process Automation is responsible for the creation of algorithms with and without AI support for the prediction of movement trajectories. In addition, the generation and sending of virtual VAM (Vulnerable Road User Awareness Message) will be realized. This will contribute to the creation of a networked infrastructure that can record all road users in real time and allow them to communicate with each other, ultimately enabling critical situations to be recognized in advance and proactively avoided.
This project [PROTEKT; Nr.:100757572] is co-funded by the European Union and co-financed from tax revenues on the basis of the budget adopted by the Saxon State Parliament.
