Management Control and Environmental Management in German and Japanese Firms
Table of contents
The Chair of Environmental Management and Accounting and the Chair of Management Accounting/Controlling of the Faculty of Business and Economics of TU-Dresden are realising a study in cooperation with the team of Prof. Kokubu from Kobe University (Japan) on Management Control and Environmental Management in German and Japanese firms.
Future challenges such as environmental topics will have an increasing importance for strategic decision making and daily operations of companies. Some firms have already started to refocus their management and accounting systems to consider these challenges. Thus, the following questions will be studied:
- How are future challenges, such as environmental questions integrated in management control?
- How do firms design and put into practice their management systems?
- Which factors deserve special notice for a successful use of management systems?
- What is the impact of corporate and national culture on the design of management systems?
- How are innovation and strategic effectiveness driven by management control and environmental management?
One major milestone of this research project is a practice oriented international study supported by Schmalenbach-Association and by B.A.U.M. e. V.. The study is based on an empirical investigation addressed to top managers of German and Japanese large firms of different industries and sizes.
Companies can benefit from this research project in three ways:
- Participation in the study allows companies to self-evaluate the state of implementation and integration of one future challenge, environmental aspects, in their management control systems.
- Companies can learn from other successful companies in Germany and Japan and use the results for their own benchmarking.
- Companies can attend our workshops for best-practice sharing.
