Global Reporting Initiative – Analysis of sustainability reporting in companies
Table of contents
Environmental reporting is established as an important instrument for companies to disclose information concerning their environmental aspects. Nowadays, environmental reporting is integrated into sustainability reporting. An important landmark for sustainability reporting has been the foundation of the Global Reporting Initiative in 2000. The thorough guidelines published by GRI are a well accepted tool for reporting by companies and can be regarded as the leading ones. Based on these, the project - focusing on environmental performance - studies the status-quo of reporting following the GRI-guidelines in general. Special focus is laid on reporting quantity (What are companies reporting – compared to the proposed GRI-indicators?) and reporting compliance (How are companies reporting – compared to the proposed content of the GRI indicators?
