DINO4Energy: Digital Integration and Optimization of Energy Production, Consumption and Storage
"DINO4Energy" is an InnoTeam project pursuing the development of smart energy management systems. Domain specific knowledge in optimization, simulation, and programming as well as competence in the energy sector is brought together by collaboration of the project partners Chair of Industrial Management, Saxony Media Solutions GmbH, and Robotron Datenbank-Software GmbH.
The project aims to advance research with respect to energy management systems in order to satisfy requirements imposed by the increasing integration of renewable energy resources. Bundling of several distributed electricity consumers and producers enables a more efficient participation in energy markets in general. In particular, it allows to overcome market entry barriers to control reserve markets. To achieve these aggregation effects, it is necessary to develop algorithms for control and coordination of decentralized facilities. Operators of small facilities, specifically, gain a significant advantage, because, in their case, resource bundling is what enables access to lucrative control reserve markets in the first place. At the same time, successful participation in energy markets brings vital support to maintaining the reliability of supply and the operational security of the grid.
The goal of the project is to develop integrated optimization approaches that allow for control, efficient scheduling, and successful market participation of facilities. To this end, modelling of existing and future energy storage plants is necessary. Methods from Operations Research and Simulation will be used to model practically relevant technical and market-side restrictions as well as to generate solutions.
The project is funded by the European Union and the Free State of Saxony under SAB-Nr. 100331224.
