Cybercrime on the Ethereum Blockchain

Prof. Dr. Lars Hornuf and Prof. Dr. Paul Momatz have jointly acquired a third-party-funded project entitled "Cybercrime on the Ethereum Blockchain" at the Frankfurt Institute for Risk Management and Regulation. In the joint project between the Technical Universities of Dresden and Munich, the research team aims to investigate the risks associated with the use of the Ethereum Blockchain. 

Specifically, the project will look at the impact of cybercrime on investor behavior: on the one hand, the research team will investigate how behavior changes after investors have fallen victim to fraud. Second, they will investigate whether blockchain data can be used to identify fraudsters. 

The methods envisioned for the project are complex, due to the enormous amount of data processing required. Ultimately, however, the main method used will be a difference-in-difference analysis. AI will also be used to develop methods for predicting fraud.

The project has a duration of 12 months.
