Statement on improving the legal framework for empirical research in Germany

The Scientific Advisory Group ((WBK) of the Research Data Centers of the Federal and State Statistical Offices (FDZ) of the Federal Statistical Office (DESTATIS), of which Prof. Dr. Cygan-Rehm is a member, has published a statement on the resumption of work on the Research Data Act (Forschungsdatengesetz).

Pending the formation of a new government, many legislative processes have been hold or delayed. One of these is the Research Data Act (Forschungsdatengesetz), which was intended to create a central framework to improve access to important research data in Germany, strengthen the country's innovative capacity and enable more evidence-based policy.

In the statement, the members of the WBK call on the future federal government and the responsible institutions to resume work on this law as soon as possible - at the latest when the new Bundestag is constituted - and to bring it to a swift conclusion.
