Interested in a doctorate?
Information event "Doing a doctorate - is that something for me?
Are you currently studying one of our degree programs and can imagine continuing to work at the university after completing your studies? With our information event we would like to arouse your interest in a doctorate (and the often associated work as a Research Associate) at the Faculty.
When?
The next event will take place on 03.12.2025, 6 pm in the Festsaal (Hülße-Bau, 3rd floor, north wing). We would be delighted if you could attend in person in the Festsaal, but you can also participate online (to the Zoom link).
What is it about?
Professors and doctoral students from the Faculty of Business Administration, Economics and Business Information Systems would like to discuss the following questions with you:
- What are the advantages of doing a doctorate after graduation?
- How does a doctorate work and what formalities do I need to observe?
- What expectations are associated with a doctorate and what challenges will I face?

New to the Faculty?: Helpful information for getting started
Mailing lists
Mailing list for external doctoral students
If you are doing an external doctorate, e.g. if you are funded by a scholarship or have a position in industry, you should subscribe to our mailing list right at the beginning. This is the only way to make sure you don't miss any information that the Dean's Office regularly sends out about courses, award announcements, etc.
You can subscribe to the mailing list even if you have not yet been accepted as a doctoral student at the Faculty. Research Associates of the Faculty are contacted via the Mittelbau mailing list and therefore do not need to subscribe to the mailing list for external doctoral students (otherwise you will receive emails twice).
Mailing list VWL-Seminar
All VWL doctoral students and postdocs (internal + external) should subscribe to the VWL-Seminar mailing list. Via the mailing list you will receive regular information on dates in the Brown Bag Seminar and Colloquium as well as on events outside TU Dresden.
Guidelines for doctoral studies
The guidelines for doctoral studies at the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics are an orientation guide written by (former) doctoral students for current doctoral students. It is primarily intended to support you in your search for relevant information.
Guide to doctoral studies at the Faculty of Business and Economics
The Graduate Academy publishes the brochure Promovieren an der TU Dresden - Ein Leitfaden . The guide provides information on how to find the right supervisor, what funding options are available and which TU Dresden service centers can help.

Applying for a doctorate
You should apply for acceptance as a doctoral student at the faculty at an early stage. All formal requirements are regulated by the doctoral degree regulations (PromO 2018). The formal requirements and the most important steps in the doctoral procedure can be found on the pages of the Standing Doctoral Committee.
Registration with the Graduate Academy
If you have been accepted as a doctoral student at the Faculty, you can register as a member of the Graduate Academy . The Graduate Academy is TU Dresden's central contact and service point for all questions relating to the doctorate and postdoc phase. It offers you many offers and opportunities for funding, qualification and advice.
Registration in the Research Information System
The Research Information System (FIS) bundles all key figures on the research achievements and activities of TU Dresden scientists and makes them visible to the outside world.
Even as a doctoral student or postdoc, you automatically receive access to the FIS and should also regularly post new publications etc. there and update your own research data.
