Student visit to Bosch Dresden
On Thursday, January 30, a group of students from the Faculty of Business and Economics joined a guided visit to the Bosch Semiconductor Waterfab in Dresden. Sudents at all study levels in the faculty joined the event although it was initially planned for the students taking the AI and Deep Learning course taught by Felipe Santos-Marquez. We first heard from the CFO Marek Jakowatz about his life career and then from Octavio Trovarelli experience. They both emphasized the non-linearity of their careers and how they took on different roles before and after joining BOSCH. This was followed by a general explanation of the company structure and the range of products that they specialize in. Then, Octavio presented an overview of the manufacturing process fo wafers and the automation of the production line. Given the number of students, we could not enter the clean room, but we had an in-depth explanation of it and other sections of the plant with a virtual tour.
It was initially planned to discuss more about the AI methods and tools used at BOSCH, but due to the interest of the students and that the event developed as a dialogue with Octavio, we ran out of time. Nevertheless, and pehaps more importantly than anything else, this event brought the students closer to one of the leading companies in Silicon Saxony, and they got to know more about the application process for internships and positions at BOSCH. We hope these events continue to shorten the bridge between the classroom and the industry.
This event was co-organized by Felipe Santos-Marquez, a research associate at the Chair of Economics, esp. International Economics. Special thanks to Octavio Trovarelli at BOSCH Dresden.
