Structure and procedure
A total of 120 credit points are awarded in the Master's in Business Administration. The standard period of study is therefore 4 semesters of full-time study, although flexible part-time study is also possible. You can find out more on our part-time study website.
The degree program has a clear and simple structure. There are no compulsory modules, only a very large compulsory elective area with different areas and credit requirements and the Master's thesis. The following diagram gives you an initial overview.

The compulsory elective area (100 credit points) starts in the first semester. Here you can broaden and deepen your knowledge as you wish. You can choose from modules in the areas of Business Administration, Methods and Procedures, Presentation and Discussion, Research Design and Supplementary Qualifications. You can combine these very freely - you just have to adhere to the respective point limits :
- at least 50 credit points in the area of Business Administration,
- at least 10 credit points in the area of Methods and Procedures,
- at least 5 credit points in the area of Presentation and Discussion,
- 10 credit points in the area of research design, and
- a maximum of 25 credit points in the area of supplementary qualifications.
Within the areas, especially in Business Administration, there are various profiles available to you for further specialization. You can find out which modules and profiles are available and how you can choose them on the Compulsory Electives website.

With your Master's thesis, you demonstrate that you can work independently on a research question from the context of Business Administration using scientific methods. It takes 16 weeks to complete and 20 credit points are awarded. The Master's thesis typically marks the end of the degree program.
For methodological and thematic support, you will attend the appropriate modules from the field of research design. There you will learn about relevant research methods and can present and discuss interim results of your Master's thesis.
To be able to start your Master's thesis, you must have earned at least 75 credit points , including at least 5 credit points from the area of Presentation and Discussion. You must start no later than the semester after passing the last module examination.
The regulations for topic allocation and registration as well as the (formal) requirements for the Master's thesis vary between the Faculty's Chairs. Find out more from the Chair of your choice on our Thesis website!
