Emily Hickmann and ActiveTEP featured on MDR SACHSEN
In the episode “Between Vision and Risk – How Saxony’s Startup Scene Is Holding Its Ground”, Emily Hickmann spoke on MDR SACHSEN – Das Sachsenradio about ActiveTEP and how digital solutions can help make orthopaedic care more understandable, patient-centred and easier to integrate into everyday life. The programme was broadcast on 2 June 2026 as part of the Dienstags direkt format.
ActiveTEP emerged from Emily Hickmann’s doctoral research on patient empowerment and supports patients undergoing hip or knee surgery. Its aim is to guide patients along their care pathway with clear information, orientation and exercises — before, during and after the procedure.
The reason for the radio appearance was ActiveTEP’s recognition at the Saxon Female Entrepreneurs Award: in the “Start-up” category, the team achieved second place. This brought visibility to a transfer project that clearly shows how research in the field of Digital Health can be turned into a concrete application for healthcare practice.
In the interview with host Thomas Lopau, Emily Hickmann not only spoke about the idea behind ActiveTEP, but also about the challenges of founding a company in the healthcare sector. For her, the appearance was also a special personal experience: her first visit to a radio studio and an opportunity to take a look behind the scenes of the programme.
We warmly congratulate Emily Hickmann and the entire ActiveTEP team on this visibility and on their recognition at the Saxon Female Entrepreneurs Award.
The podcast of the Dienstags direkt programme is available on the MDR website. Emily Hickmann can be heard several times from around minute 24 onwards.
