PhD Project at TUD: Active and Informed with a New Hip – Now Officially a Medical Device
Over 200,000 people in Germany receive an artificial hip joint each year. The success of the surgery largely depends on the active participation of the patients. However, sufficient education and support are often lacking in everyday practice. This frequently leads to incorrect behavior—patients may not mobilize enough, take their medication improperly, or fail to follow post-operative movement guidelines.
This is precisely where ActiveTEP comes in: it equips patients with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to return to everyday life with their new hip in a safe and active way—helping to prevent unnecessary complications. The application was developed in a co-creation process with patients and, after successful testing, is intended to serve as a "blueprint" for further patient empowerment solutions.
ActiveTEP has been classified as a Class I medical device and has been available in app stores for a few weeks. For more information, visit the ActiveTEP website or feel free to contact Ms. Hickmann.
