Welcoming Nick Fleischer to the Research Group Digital Health!

Nick Fleischer joined our Research Group Digital Health as a research associate on July 1, 2026. His journey to the team began during his studies. A term paper on process modelling in public health services laid the foundation for his later research focus, while his work as a student assistant primarily involved supporting teaching. A research seminar and his diploma thesis marked an important step towards his current role. In both, he explored how large language models could be used to link data elements from medical guidelines with healthcare information along a patient pathway. The aim was to better support both those who model patient pathways and those who use them.

Since joining the team, Nick has been contributing to the MiHUB (Medical Informatics Hub) project, where he is primarily responsible for modelling the lung cancer patient pathway. He will subsequently focus on the Lusatia-based projects PhenoCare and SoSCare Lausitz, contributing his expertise in modelling and health services research. In PhenoCare, he will help develop an MS diary—a digital application designed to make it easy for people with multiple sclerosis to record patient-reported data and to make regional healthcare services more transparent and accessible. In SoSCare Lausitz, he will investigate a community care model that incorporates digital support along the post-stroke care pathway.

Nick finds the team’s collaborative spirit particularly motivating, with regular exchanges and the joint development of solutions at the heart of this experience. In his spare time, he enjoys balancing analytical work with physical activity, whether hiking, jogging or bouldering.
