Welcome to the Team: Rebecca Scheel Joins the Digital Health Research Group
Rebecca Scheel
Even before joining the Research Group Digital Health, Rebecca Scheel had been deeply engaged with health-related topics. Training in nutritional counselling, combined with a strong interest in psychological mechanisms, led her to the field of obesity therapy — and ultimately to a research seminar and her diploma thesis, in which she developed a dialogue-based AI assistant as a nutrition coach for dietary therapy. A subsequent internship at an obesity center brought her into direct contact with patients and therapists, highlighting the significant need for digital support in clinical care.
The experience gained during her diploma thesis — understanding patient pathways, aligning the needs of patients and medical professionals, and translating these into usable system architectures — forms a natural bridge to her new role in the MiHUB (Medical Informatics Hub) project. Since February 15, Rebecca has been working as a research associate on the development of interoperable, modular solutions that integrate into existing clinical infrastructures. Her work focuses in particular on contributing to a patient portal along a lung cancer care pathway, with the aim of better connecting clinicians and patients through digital support across the entire patient journey.
Rebecca is driven by the desire to make a meaningful impact: to create digital solutions that not only function technically but also take psychological perspectives into account, sustainably relieve clinicians, and support patients in navigating their disease. In her private life, she prefers to recharge in the mountains — whether climbing, hiking, or road cycling.
We warmly welcome Rebecca and look forward to working together!
