After graduating from high school in Hoyerswerda, Kai Gand completed his civilian service in the surgical area of the local hospital. It was there that he first came into deeper contact with the domain of healthcare. The study of business informatics (diploma) from 2006 formed the basis for the interest and understanding of digital solutions. The employment as a research assistant at the former chair for business informatics, in particular system development, from 2012 enabled the increased occupation with both digital solutions and healthcare in the form of digital health. This had already been part of the thematic focus of the chair for many years, which was transferred to the Digital Health research group in 2021. In 2019, Kai Gand successfully completed his doctorate on the topic of "On the Value Contribution of Health Information Technology". In the group, he is mostly responsible for overarching topics such as project coordination.
