Prof. Viktor Mechtcherine and his team from the Institute of Construction Materials at TU Dresden are researching sustainable building materials and mineral composites in order to reduce CO2 emissions generated during concrete production, improve sustainability and increase the durability of building materials. In addition to the development of new types of binders, the focus is also on research into alternative high-performance reinforcements. Another research focus is on modern production technologies, such as concrete 3D printing with concrete, in order to make the construction of the future more efficient and automated.

Prof. Martin Claßen and his team at the Institute of Structural Concrete at RWTH Aachen University are researching innovative methods in concrete construction to enable resource-efficient and automated production of concrete components, as well as their circular reuse in the future. By applying new design principles, material-efficient structures can be calculated and produced using automated, multimodal manufacturing processes -allowing for a significant reduction in the amount of concrete used today. The team also focuses on extending the service life of existing structures (e.g., bridges) and on the recovery and reuse of entire components.

EXC CARE is shaping the future of construction by consistently shifting value creation from the construction site to digitally controlled precast factories. There, components are produced in an automated and material-efficient manner using digital fabrication. On-site, these elements are then assembled with the help of robotic systems. Cyber-physical systems are used to connect planning, logistics, component tracking, and assembly processes in real time - raising quality, speed, and resource efficiency to a new level.
