Building
The new building on the Johannstadt campus in Dresden at Tatzberg offers an area of approx. 5700 m², which is divided equally between the two institutes B CUBE (TU Dresden) and the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE, Helmholtz Society). The building offers laboratories, seminar rooms and offices for about 325 employees. The building was equipped with extremely low-vibration foundations and ceilings to use particularly vibration-sensitive devices such as electron and laser microscopes.
The building was designed and implemented by the architects Wörner Traxler Richter Planungsgesellschaft mbH Dresden. The sculpture "Gittergeflecht" arranged in front of the building was created by the Dresden artist Frank Schauseil and is inspired by images of organic structures.
Construction started in October 2015 and the costs amounted to around 42 million euros. The construction was funded by the European Regional Development Fund (EFRE) and co-financed by the Free State of Saxony.
