Have we sparked your interest? These are the next steps:
If you're eager to be a part of our vibrant research community and gain hands-on experience in regenerative medicine and biology, we encourage you to explore our training and internship opportunities. Whether you're interested in stem cell biology, tissue engineering, bioinformatics, or any related field, CRTD offers a variety of options to suit your needs.
With us you have the opportunity to complete a company internship, orientation internship or internship alongside your studies, but also to write a school research paper (such as KOL or BELL) or your Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis.[1]
Are you a school student looking for a place for your mandatory company internship (Betriebspraktikum, usually year 8-11) or have you just finished school and want to complete an orientation internship (max. 2 weeks) to help you decide where to go next? In both bases, our modular internship offer may be the right choice for you.
During your time at CRTD, you will work along different research groups and gain insight into the various topics researchers at the institute are working on. You will be able to try out different lab techniques and put your theoretical knowledge into practice.

It is possible to write your school research paper with one of the CRTD research groups. The application process is the same as for university interns (Internships for university students / Bachelor/Master thesis).
You study for your Bachelor’s or Master’s degree and would like to complete an internship at CRTD? You want to complete your thesis project with one of our research groups? Simply follow the steps below to apply:
- Please familiarize yourself with the research groups listed on the CRTD website. Which topic(s) are you most interested in?
- Contact the group leader(s) directly and cc the team assistant. Send in a complete application including a letter of motivation. Explain in your application why you are interested in the group and their research. Also state clearly when you would like to complete the internship.
- As the working language at the CRTD is English, please submit your application in English.
Internships are usually unpaid and last a maximum of three months. A longer time period is possible if stipulated in your course regulations as mandatory. The time frame restriction does not apply to thesis projects. Students from Erasmus+ program countries may be eligible for funding through the Erasmus+ program.
Join us at CRTD and experience a unique research environment on our life science campus in Dresden-Johannstadt. Your contribution to the future of regenerative therapies starts here.
Since 2012, the CRTD has maintained a cooperation with the Martin-Andersen-Nexö-Gymnasium Dresden (MANOS). The CRTD complements the offer of the specialized secondary school in Dresden with current research in modern life sciences. MANOS is located in the vicinity of the CRTD and offers students with a special interest in mathematics and natural sciences the opportunity to pursue their interests in greater dephts.
In 2009, young international scientists from numerous biomedical and life science research institutes in Dresden initiated the school project Science goes to School!. Linked to the Dresden International PhD Program (DIPP), multinational groups of PhD students with a life sciences background visit schools in Dresden and nearby towns, and carry out biology workshops with hands-on experiments. The programme is aimed at students in years 8 to 12 and offers not only the opportunity to gain an insight into scientific workflows. It also promotes collaborative teamwork and effective communication (in English) and shows students that diverse nationalities can work together creatively to find innovative solutions to key problems.
Science goes to School! was given one of the Saxon Integration Awards in 2011. In January 2013 it was named an academic peal (Hochschulperle) by the ‘Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft’ for being an innovative exemplary project in an academic setting.
Teachers can get information about the school project bookings here.
Not sure what to do after your A-levels? Do an FSJ in science or public relations at CRTD. Find out more here.
Curious about different professions in science? Find out more about our professional training courses: Biology Laboratory Technician and Animal Caretaker (research and clinic).
You want to start studying? How about the Bachelor's program in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology offered by TU Dresden's Faculty of Biology? Afterwards, you can complete the international Master's program (program language English) in Regenerative Medicine and Biology at CRTD/CMCB.

[1] Please be aware, however, that it is not always possible to accommodate your wish. The reason is usually not that we do not want to have students around but that it can be very difficult to integrate a student into the ongoing work program. So do not be disappointed if your plan does not work out.
