Dr. Mariana Medina-Sánchez Appointed as TUD Young Investigator

Dr. Mariana Medina-Sánchez, research group leader at the B CUBE - Center for Molecular Bioengineering at the TU Dresden and the Leibnitz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden (IFW), was appointed TUD Young Investigator. The recognition provides support for the development of her academic career and will strengthen her integration into the Medical Faculty of the TU Dresden.

"I am honored to become a TUD Young Investigator and I look forward to contributing to the TUD academic community and mentoring aspiring young researchers,” says Dr. Medina-Sánchez.

Dr. Mariana Medina-Sánchez and her research group develop microtools that can perform non-invasive procedures or diagnoses at the cellular level. They design nature-inspired microrobots that can be combined with living cells, microorganisms, or other smart materials. The group developed compact 3D sensors and platforms to detect traces of substances such as cancer markers, pathogens, and individual cells. These devices can be used for precise and reliable analyses in real-life situations. In the future, such microtools and microrobots could be used for targeted drug delivery and other applications that could advance biotechnology and health care, e.g., in gynecology and cancer treatment.

The TU Dresden awards the TUD Young Investigator title to outstanding junior research group leaders to enhance their standing in the academic community and to provide them with opportunities for personal and professional development. TUD Young Investigators can participate as examiners in doctoral procedures, engage in teaching, and contribute to various faculty-related initiatives.
