In Memory of Dr. Shonali Dhingra
Dr. Shonali Dhingra
We are deeply saddened to share that our colleague Dr. Shonali Dhingra passed away in a tragic accident at the end of December. Dr. Dhingra was a neurophysicist and postdoctoral researcher in the group of Prof. Federico Calegari at the Center for Regenerative Therapies Dresden (CRTD). The entire CRTD and CMCB community mourns the loss of a valued colleague, a friend, and an outstanding scientist.
Shonali will be deeply missed by everyone who had the privilege of working with her. In addition to her scientific work, she spent the last several years serving voluntarily as a Person of Trust at the CRTD. In this role, she was always available to support colleagues in challenging situations. She was known as a warm-hearted and approachable person, a cheerful and energetic colleague, and a dedicated mentor and teacher who inspired students and peers alike.
“Shonali was one of the pillars of my lab - a superb and ambitious scientist, a loyal and generous friend. May her family find the strength to overcome this loss,” says Prof. Calegari.
“I am deeply saddened about Shonali’s passing. She was a wonderful scientist with broad expertise, always curious and eager to engage others in scientific conversation. Shonali taught within the framework of our Master’s course. She did a remarkable job teaching about her work in cognitive and computational neuroscience. Shonali will be incredibly missed as a colleague, a teacher, and a scientist. My heart goes out to her husband, family, friends and everyone who will miss her,” says Prof. Catherina Becker, Deputy Director of the CRTD and Director of the CMCB.
When someone passes away, much is lost – but never the time we shared with them.
A condolence book is available in the CRTD lobby for those who would like to pay their respects and leave a message for Shonali’s family.
