Washing up and Media Kitchen
Since 2004, a central washing up and media kitchen has been established at BIOTEC, which has been expanded by another unit at the CRTD in 2012. From these two locations, laboratory materials are made available to the researchers, as well as local companies, ready for use. From glassware to media, whether cleaned, sterilized or freshly replenished - the supply is continuously ensured, with quality as the first priority. In this way, the team at the central washing up and media kitchen ensures that the planned research projects run smoothly and thus supports the researchers in their experiments in the laboratory.
Services
The media kitchen offers services for washing up, autoclaving and heat sterilization (180-220 °C) of laboratory materials or reaction vessels made of glass, metal or plastic. In addition, standard solutions, buffers and media are produced and made available to users in various volumes. For an overview of available stocks, as well as for the used recepies for soluations, buffers or media, please contact the CMCB TP Accounting team.
Plugging pipettes and providing sterile pasteur pipettes are also services provided by the central washing up and media kitchen. As a service, solutions which are prepared in the research groups are also autoclaved. Furthermore, it is possible to obtain adapted culture media or solutions by prior arrangement and depending on the available resources. Please also inform the service unit in time if you need larger quantities of stock solutions or media.
Equipment of the area
The two washing up and media kitchens serve as a central supply unit to the research groups and are located in fully equipped laboratories, which contain laboratory work tables and sterile work benches for microbiological preparation and post-processing work (including pH meter and weighing station). Furthermore, media claves and plate filling stations, laboratory rinsing and drying machines, sterilizing autoclaves, hot air sterilizers, ultrapure water systems and pipette plugging machines are operated by the staff of the washing up and media kitchens in this work area. A cold storage room and storage cabinets are available to store all stocks.
