The excellence area "Microelectronics. Information Science. Transforming AI" focuses on the synergy between advanced microelectronics and artificial intelligence, with an emphasis on the development of innovative hardware systems and information technologies that drive AI transformation. Research in circuit design, sensor systems, and nanoelectronics provides the critical infrastructure for the evolving AI landscape. Efforts in highly-parallel VLSI systems and neuro-microelectronics enable more efficient hardware solutions for complex AI models, while advancements in communication networks optimize data flow and improve system intelligence. Information theory as well as domaine-specific and mathematics-informed machine learning research contribute to the enhancement of AI algorithms, enabling more sophisticated and scalable applications.
