INTERREG 2021–2027
Interreg or "European Territorial Cooperation" is part of the European Union's structural and investment policy and is financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). Interreg supports cooperation between regions in Europe with the aim of harmonious, balanced and sustainable development as well as strengthening European cohesion and competitiveness. In the funding period 2021–2027, approximately eight billion euros will be made available for this programme.
The priorities of European Territorial Cooperation are Smarter Europe, Greener Europe, More connected Europe, More social Europe and Europe closer to citizens.
In the funding period 2021–2027, INTERREG will be implemented in four strands:
- cross-border cooperation - cooperations between neighborhood countries sharing a land border or sea crossing. (13 programmes with German participation).
- transnational cooperation - cooperation in wider transnational areas (six programmes with German participation)
- interregional cooperation - cooperation of partners from different Member States across the EU (Interact, ESPON, URBACT, Interreg Europe)
- Interreg Europe (published soon)
- cooperation between the outermost regions of the EU. This strand is not relevant to Germany.
