EP BrainHealth launches Call on “Biological, social and environmental factors that impact the trajectory of brain health across the lifespan – in the field of neurodegeneration“!
The aim of the call is to promote multinational, collaborative and interdisciplinary research that addresses key translational issues. Applications under this call should investigate how biological, social and environmental factors influence the progression of neurodegenerative diseases across the lifespan.
Applications must be interdisciplinary and address at least two of the following three factors:
1. biological factors, e.g. genetics, epigenetics, -omics, neuroplasticity, inflammation, infections, synaptogenesis, neuronal circuits, vascular factors, sensory impairments, comorbidities
2. lifestyle and social factors, e.g. exercise/activity, diet, sleep, smoking, alcohol and drug use, work (income, employment), socioeconomic background/status, ethnicity, sex and gender, education, safety, social interactions (family/friends), access to healthcare, stress, trauma, migration
3. environmental factors, e.g. pollution/pollutants, urbanity, natural disasters, pandemics, war/conflict, climate change, microbiota, nature
In addition, applications must examine at least two of the following aspects:
1. mechanisms of action of the identified factors
2. early detection, diagnosis and prognosis in connection with the identified factors
3. prevention, treatments, interventions, technological developments, care and support related to the identified factors
Timeline and funding conditions:
- March 10, 2026 - submission of project outline
- June 30, 2026 - submission of full proposal
