Funding of interdisciplinary networking activities

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) supports interdisciplinary networking activities between Socio-economic Sciences and the Humanities (SSH) and Natural Sciences and Engineering with the preparation of a joint EU application within the EU framework programme for research and innovation – HORIZON 2020.

The preparatory phase of an application for a joint project under the 2017 calls of the 5th Societal Challenge (“Climate Action, Environment, Resource Efficiency and Raw Materials”) in Horizon 2020 will be supported provided that the need for participation of SSH is explicitly mentioned in the call text or is explained in a plausible way by the applicant(s).

Moreover, the preparatory phase of an application within the funding line “cross-cutting activities” (Focus Areas) with the following topics will also be funded:

CIRC 01-2016-2017: Systemic, eco-innovative approaches for the circular economy: large-scale demonstration projects
CIRC 02-2016-2017: Water in the context of the circular economy
SCC 02-2016-2017: Demonstrating innovative nature-based solutions in cities.

Eligible for funding are interdisciplinary tandems in which one partner is from SSH and another partner is from Natural Sciences or Engineering (from up to two German organizations) with the common interest to participate in a consortium or to build-up such a consortium.

The amount of the grant is limited to a maximum of 50,000 euros per tandem (for staff and equipment costs).

Deadline for submission of proposals is 31 May 2016.
