Europe for Citizens programme: Next deadline in September 2019
The aim of the Europe for Citizens programme is to bring citizens closer to the European Union.
The programme includes funding area 1 "European Historical Awareness" and funding area 2 "Democratic Engagement and Citizen Participation":
- The project proposals for funding area 1 are intended to promote reflection on European values and the study of the causes of totalitarian regimes and other important moments in Europe's new history. The submission deadline is February 01, 2020.
- In funding area 2 the aim is e.g. promoting transnational cooperation projects that stimulate reflection on the European Union, its core values, its future or contribute to the debate on current European challenges. The deadlines for submissions are 1 September 2019 and 1 September 2020.
For the years 2016 to 2020, key issues and key moments have been identified, which, if taken into account, add extra points in the evaluation of the grant application, but are not mandatory:
• Civil society and civic participation under totalitarian regimes
• Exclusion and loss of civil rights in totalitarian regimes: lessons for the present
• Democratic change and accession to the European Union

• 1979 elections to the European Parliament - also 40th anniversary of the first direct election of the EP
• 1989 Democratic Revolutions in Central and Eastern Europe and Fall of the Berlin Wall
• 2004 15-year anniversary of the EU east enlargement
»Key Moments 2020«:
• 1950 Statement by Robert Schuman
• 1990 Germany's reunification
• 2000 promulgation of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union
