The European Commission recently approved the Interreg cross-border cooperation program between the Republic of Poland and the Free State of Saxony for the funding period 2021-2027.

Interreg PL-SN is an EU funded programme to support cross-border cooperation projects between organisations in Saxony and Poland on topics including natural and cultural heritage, regional mobility, cross-border education, and collaborative partnerships.

Funding is provided for projects which bring together partners from both the federal state of Saxony and Poland.

To be eligible for funding, projects must include at least one partner which meets the following criteria:

• Administrative bodies and public authorities on the level of the federal state, regional or local government.
• Legal entities of public or private law dedicated to non-commercial activities, funded mainly through public funding sources and subject to oversight by public bodies.
• Non-public non-profit organisations, associations as well as economic and social partnership organisations.
• Small and medium-sized businesses (SME)

The field of action of the project must be focussed on the border regions as detailed on the programme website. Only projects which include at least one partner from Saxony and one partner from  Poland are eligible for funding.

To ensure genuine cross-border collaboration, the project must meet at least three of the following four criteria:

• Joint planning (mandatory).
• Joint implementation (mandatory).
• Joint personnel.
• Joint financing.
