Georg Helm Prize
The TUD Dresden University of Technology (TUD) and the Verein zur Förderung von Studierenden der Technischen Universität Dresden e.V. (Association for the Promotion of Students of the TUD) annually honor three outstanding scientific works by TUD students by awarding them the Georg-Helm-Prize. Each faculty, each department and each Central Academic Unit of the TUD can propose a dissertation and a diploma thesis or comparable final thesis (Master's thesis, state examination).
The work should have been completed and successfully defended in the period from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025. Proposals for the award must be submitted by
Thursday, July 31, 2025 to the Advisory Board of the Georg Helm Prize via the Academic Committees/Office of the Rector, Mandy Dziubanek, via mandy.dziubanek@tu-dresden.
A substantiated proposal must be submitted using the submission form, as well as an electronic copy of the thesis, a CV and, in addition, a list of publications, copies of the reviews, an overview of grades, a copy of the degree certificate or a copy of the doctoral certificate. The award consists of a medal, a certificate and a gold coin.
The Georg Helm Prize is awarded in memory of a mathematician and long-standing university lecturer. Born in Dresden in 1851, Georg Helm studied mathematics and physics at the Polytechnic School in Dresden and at the University of Leipzig. In 1892, he was appointed Chair of Geometry, Analytical Mechanics and Mathematical Physics at Dresden Technical University and taught at the Dresden university for more than 30 years. In 1910/11, Georg Helm was Rector of the Dresden University of Technology.
