Walter Kalkhof-Rose Memorial Prize
The “Walter Kalkhof-Rose Memorial Prize”, awarded by the Academy of Sciences and Literature | Mainz and sponsored by the Walter and Sibylle Kalkhof-Rose Foundation, is aimed at outstanding young researchers from across the natural sciences. The prize, which has been awarded since 1995, is presented every two years and commemorates the late honorary member of the Academy, Dr Walter Kalkhof-Rose. Since 2018, the prize has been open to public nomination.
The prize is endowed with €5,000 and will be awarded on 6 November 2026 during the annual ceremony of the Mainz Academy of Sciences and Literature.
Self-nominations are not permitted. Researchers who, at an early stage of their academic career, have already distinguished themselves through pioneering research contributions, thereby developing an independent scientific profile, and who are now about to complete their habilitation or hold an equivalent qualification, may be nominated.
All professors at German universities are eligible to submit nominations. Substantiated nominations must be sent to the Academy’s President’s Office. When submitting a nomination, please state whether the candidate has already been nominated for another prize or has already received a prize.
Submission deadline June 15, 2026
