Workshop research data management for technology platforms at the TUD

Workshop participants FDM
On May 16, 2025, the 4th workshop of the TUD technology platforms took place, this time on the topic of "Research data management in Core Facilities". The Research Data Contact Point presented the results of a survey of the Core Facilities. The aim of the survey was to record wishes and support needs arising from the responsibility for the research data collected at the facilities. The results show that more than two thirds of the core facilities would like to take responsibility for research data management in the context of data collection and data preparation through to data analysis, as well as for documenting data generation and advising users.
The survey also made it clear that the core facilities require more extensive staff support for these tasks (which currently averages 0.15 FTE) in order to expand the support services for users.
In addition, a substantial proportion of the facilities see potential in the use of AI-supported learning to further optimize data analysis, but require specialist and personnel support for its implementation.
The researchers discussed their experiences and needs in a large group. Denise Dörfel from the Research Data Contact Point presented a newly developed consulting concept that can be used, for example, to automatically derive building blocks for data management plans from the survey results. The insights gained are also to be taken into account in the terms of use of the core facilities.
