The first part of the workshop will give a condensed but nevertheless comprehensive overview of the research methodology behind surveys, i.e. modes, sampling procedures, question wording, field work, measures of quality and validity, weighting procedures. The second part is designed as an interactive event. With the help of different “real” survey designs and questionnaires, participants will learn how to avoid potential traps in survey and questionnaire design and will get some training how to write valid and reliable survey questions. PhD students, who use survey methodology in their research, will be invited to present and discuss their approaches within the workshop. The workshop is directed at PhD students at an early stage of their dissertation. This is a co-operation with the Dresden Leibniz Graduate School. |
